《凡卡》原文：
When I went to the marketplace, I saw a girl who was very beautiful. She had long hair and a red dress. She looked like a beautiful flower in the marketplace.
I said to her, \”Excuse me, miss. Do you want to buy something?\” She turned to me and said, \”Yes, I want to buy a red hat.\” I said, \”I can give you a red hat if you like.\”
She said, \”Thank you, but I want a red hat that is a little bigger than this one.\” I said, \”I can\’t give you a red hat that is a little bigger than this one. It\’s too big.\”
She said, \”But it\’s the only one that I have. Please give it to me.\” I said, \”I can\’t. It\’s not right. I can\’t give you something that I have got to give to someone else.\”
She said, \”But it\’s the only one that I have. Please give it to me.\” I said, \”I can\’t. It\’s not right. I can\’t give you something that I have got to give to someone else. I can\’t do that.\”
Then she turned to me and said, \”Are you really a good person? Can\’t you see that I have only one red hat and I want it? Can\’t you understand that I am in trouble?\”
I said, \”I understand. I am a good person. I can give you something if you want. But I can\’t give you something that I have got to give to someone else. I can\’t do that.\”
She said, \”Are you really a good person? I hope you will understand. I am very sorry. I can\’t give you the red hat. I can\’t do that.\”
I said, \”I understand. I am a good person. I can give you something if you want. But I can\’t give you something that I have got to give to someone else. I can\’t do that. I can\’t give you the red hat.\”
Then she turned to me and said, \”Are you really a good person? I hope you will understand. I am very sorry. I can\’t give you the red hat. I can\’t do that.\”
I said, \”I understand. I am a good person. I can give you something if you want. But I can\’t give you something that I have got to give to someone else. I can\’t do that. I can\’t give you the red hat.\”
And I left the marketplace and went home. I thought about her and the red hat. I thought about what she said. I realized that I was a good person. I could give her something if she wanted. But I couldn\’t give her something that I had to give to someone else. And that is why I was sorry.
And I thought, \”If someone asks me to give something that I have got to give to someone else, I will give it to them. I will do my best to help them. I will be a good person. I will try my best to be a good person.\”
And that is what I wanted to say to the girl. And that is what I want to tell you. If someone asks you to give something that you have got to give to someone else, don\’t be afraid. Give it to them. You will be a good person. You will try your best to be a good person. And you will be happy.
